Kochi: Lakshadweep administration has intensified the reform activities soon after the visit of administrator Praful Khoda Patel. Complaints arose that the administration set up flags on private properties without informing the land owners. The revenue department set up flags in private property of Kavaratti island.

The draft Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation (LDAR) of 2021 was issued by the administration. This was regarding acquiring land of natives as part of development activities in the island. This reform led to major controversies and protests against the administrator.

The land is being acquired without the full consent of owners. At present, the land is acquired for some paramedical activities. As per reports, the administration is surveying the land without permission of owners.

Praful Khoda Patel had held talks with the officials during his visit to the island the other day. He also criticised them for not enforcing some of the reforms put forward during the previous visit.

As the officials are pressurized to speed up the procedures, they are going ahead with the land acquisition and other steps. The land owners reacted to the new reform that they came to know about it only after finding flags on their properties.
