Thrissur: Noted children's literature writer KV Ramanathan passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur on Monday night. He was 91.
He is author of more than 20 works of children's literature in the Malayalam language, such as 'Adbhutavanaranmar', 'Adbhuthaneerali', 'Ammayum and Muyalum Orikal Koodi', 'Commander Gopi', 'Mantrikapoocha' among others. He received the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2014 for his overall contribution to children's literature.
He was born on August 29, 1932, near Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam Temple as son of late Manakal Shankaramenon and Kochukuttiyamma. He received his education from Irinjalakuda LP School, Govt Boys High School, Ernakulam Maharajas College and Thrissur Govt Training College.
After his studies, he spent 36 years as a teacher at Irinjalakuda National High School and retired as the principal.
He bagged the Sahitya Pravartaka Cooperative Society (SPCS) award for his work 'Appukuttan and Gopi' in 1961 and 'Ammayum and Muyalum Orikal Koodi' in 1968. In 1992, he received the Bhima Award for 'Adbhuthaneerali' and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1994.
Wife: KK Radha (Retd. Principal, Iringalakuda Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School). Children: Social activist and journalist Renu Ramnath, Indukala (teacher).
