Kuttanad seat for NCP; Thomas Chandy’s brother to contest


It is learned that the Congress wants to take over the seat from Kerala Congress. However, Jose K. Mani is not ready to hand over the seat.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will contest from Kuttanad seat in the by-election.

A decision to this extent was reached at a meeting between NCP and CPI-CPM leaders on Friday. The two left parties had a meeting earlier in the day.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Thomas Chandy.

The NCP had contested from Kuttanad during the last three elections. NCP leaders hinted that former minister Thomas Chandy’s brother Thomas K. Thomas will contest the polls this time. NCP will officially announce the candidate soon.

Meanwhile, it is learned that the Congress wants to take over the seat from Kerala Congress. However, Jose K. Mani is not ready to hand over the seat. At the same time, P. J. Joseph faction is trying to exchange seats.

Mullappally Ramachandran clarified that the matter will be discussed in the KPCC meeting on February 25.
