Thiruvananthapuram: A protest march observed by Kerala Students Union (KSU) in the state capital demanding the resignation of Higher Education Minister R. Bindu turned violent on Sunday. 

The protest, alleging the minister's role in the union election controversy at Sree Kerala Varma College in Thrissur, turned violent after the police tried to stop the march to Bindu's house. 

Following this, KSU announced a state-wide education bandh to mark their protest against police action that left several activists, including women, injured. 

The protest march commenced from the DCC office in Thiruvananthapuram to the minister's official residence. Protesters tore down a poster placed as part of the Keraleeyam event and stopped the car of CPM leader P P Chitharanjan, MLA. 

Later, police placed barricades near the minister's residence, preventing KSU activists from entering the premises. The activists clashed with the cops after they used water cannons to stop them from climbing over the barricades. The cops eventually used force and lathi-charged the workers. Several workers were injured and taken to the hospital.
