A division bench of Kerala High Court, on Wednesday, stayed an order of a single judge bench on KSRTC salary disbursal, saying the government should provide financial assistance to the corporation.
The state government had contended in an appeal that it is not entitled to distribute the salary and the stay comes in this context. The government pointed out that KSRTC is just another corporation and has no liability over salary distribution. The government can give consideration to corporations but cannot give special consideration in matters including financial assistance.
The single bench chaired by Justice Devan Ramachandran had ordered the state government to speed up action to raise the amount for KSRTC before Onam. The court then observed that KSRTC staff must get a chance to celebrate Onam and the government should not leave them to starve.
KSRTC needs nearly Rs 103 cr to distribute salary of two months and Onam bonus to the staff.
