Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to reduce accidents, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has decided to offer special training for its drivers. The department has instructed the identification of master trainers from among the existing drivers and issued guidelines for their selection.
According to the directives, the trainers must have a clean accident record during their service period and should demonstrate fuel-efficient driving practices. Additionally, eligible drivers must have at least three years remaining until retirement and possess the ability to read and write in English.
KSRTC's Managing Director has instructed all units to submit the list of qualified drivers by January 13.
Meanwhile, labor unions have criticized the management, accusing it of scapegoating drivers whenever accidents occur. They have demanded that KSRTC not only focus on training drivers but also replace outdated buses to improve road safety.
