KSRTC has benefited significantly from the Paliyekkara toll ban, earning nearly ₹1 crore in just 50 days due to daily savings on bus toll charges.

Thrissur: The profit earned by the KSRTC following the suspension of toll collection at Paliyekkara will soon touch ₹1 crore.
It has been 50 days since an average of 800 buses have been passing through the toll gate daily without paying the toll. Only less than 20 per cent of buses plying daily cross the gate more than once. For repeat entries, the toll is charged at half the regular rate from the second passage.
By saving ₹7,310 per month for 800 buses, KSRTC has already earned a profit of ₹55.5 lakh. The total profit is expected to reach close to ₹90 lakh after 50 days.
The toll rate for KSRTC buses was previously fixed at ₹1,050 per month but was later increased to ₹7,310. It is the KSRTC that has benefited the most from the Paliyekkara toll issue.
