Thiruvananthapuram: A senior official of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) was arrested by the Vigilance on Saturday while allegedly accepting bribe at a club in Thiruvananthapuram. The accused has been identified as C Udayakumar, KSRTC deputy general manager. He was nabbed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000.
According to reports, Udayakumar initially demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a person, who had acquired a contract to paste advertisements on buses, to approve a bill. The latter had paid Rs 40,000 earlier.
However, as he failed to pay the balance amount, Udayakumar threatened to withhold another bill of Rs 12 lakh. Following this, he lodged a complaint with the Vigilance.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Antony Raju directed to suspend the official in the wake of the arrest. KSRTC will soon take action in this regard.
