Thamarassery: A KSRTC driver, who suffered a stroke while driving but managed to park the bus on the roadside and saved the lives of 48 passengers, died on Wednesday. Though one side of his body was paralysed suddenly, KSRTC Thamarassery depot driver Sigeesh Kumar (48) took the timely decision and somehow parked the bus safely before he collapsed on the seat.
Following the incident that happened on November 20 in Kunnamkulam, Sigeesh was undergoing treatment at Govt Medical College in Thrissur and Govt Taluk Hospital in Thamarassery. Later his condition worsened due to infection and was shifted to Govt Medical College in Kozhikode.
Sigeesh was a KSRTC driver for the bus conducting service from Thamarassery to Malakkappara under the budget tourism project. Over 90 passengers under a club in Feroke had booked two buses on November 20 for the Malakkappara trip.
Sigeesh felt uneasy when the bus reached Kunnamkulam and he was unable even to change the gear. However, he mustered courage and managed to park the bus safely.
Sigeesh is survived by his wife Smitha and daughter Saniya. His mortal remains were kept at Thamarassery KSRTC depot and his residence to pay homage and later cremated at Puthuppadi crematorium.
