Kollam: The duty system formulated by the recognised staff unions in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will come into effect at Neyyattinkara and Nedumangad depots from Monday onwards. 

The 'Multiple Duty Pattern' was implemented on a pilot basis to replace the controversial 'Single Duty System', which was strongly opposed by the employees and unions. 

The single duty was initially launched in Parasalla depot and later at Neyyattinkara, Poovar, Kattakada, Vellarada and Vizhinjam. Later, KSRTC dropped plans to implement this in other depots following protests from staff unions. 

Furthermore, the employees also notified Kerala High Court of the difficulties faced by the staff under the single duty system. Despite addressing the concerns to Kerala Governor and Chief Minister, KSRTC management overcame legal issues and adopted the single duty system. 

Due to protests, however, KSRTC management held talks with the unions and agreed to impose the Multiple Duty Pattern. Following this, a decision was taken to implement the duty system in two depots for a period of one month. If found successful, other depots will adopt the model.
