Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Electricity Board has decided to make online payment compulsory for bills above Rs 500. After taking the decision, KSEB appealed to the consumers to avoid visiting cash counters at the KSEB office and pay electricity bills above Rs 500 through online platforms. Hence, only the customers who have to pay electricity bills below Rs 500 will be allowed to make the payments at the cash counters of KSEB offices.
Issuing the new direction, KSEB requested the consumers to cooperate with the new decision.
The new decision will come into force from the next billing, informed KSEB.
At present, consumers are allowed to pay electricity bills below Rs 2000 at the counters. Revising this rule, KSB Chief Engineer, Distribution has given the new direction to all sections of KSEB.
It is reported that only a few consumers are using the online payment facility of KSEB. The secretary of the electricity department reviews that less than 50 per cent of the consumers are paying the bills online.
With the new move, KSEB aims to encourage digital payment. But those who are not experienced with digital payment will face some practical issues.
KSEB has taken the decision to implement compulsory online payment of bills above Rs 500 at a high-level meeting chaired by the chief secretary.
