The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced a 25% tariff hike for consumers using over 250 units of electricity per month. This increased tariff will apply during peak hours, which are after 6 PM.
However, KSEB suggests shifting high electricity-consuming activities to daytime hours to maximise savings.
Maximise savings by shifting usage to daytime
Consumers can make substantial savings by shifting electricity-heavy activities, such as using electric vehicle chargers, water heaters, pumps, mixers, grinders, washing machines, and ironing presses, to between 6 AM and 6 PM. During these hours, a 10% discount applies, significantly reducing the cost of consumption.
By being strategic about when appliances are used, households can avoid peak-hour consumption and take advantage of the reduced rates during the day. Even with the tariff hike, such adjustments can ensure lower electricity bills overall.
