Kozhikode: Police officials suspect that the fire accident that resulted in the death of three people on an Express train near Elathur was premeditated.
The police have obtained CCTV footage showing the suspect fleeing the scene on a bike. The suspect alighted from the coach near Elathur and Kattil Pedika and fled on a bike provided by an unidentified person. However, the details regarding the incident remain unclear as police officials continue to gather eyewitness accounts.
The Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) has informed the police that the suspect did not have a reserved ticket.
The unfortunate accident happened after an unidentified man poured petrol and set on fire one of the passenger, allegedly after an argument on board the D1 compartment of the Alappuzha Kannur Main Executive Express train around 10:00 pm.
The accused escaped after passengers pulled the emergency chain.
Three persons, including a one-year-old child and a woman, were found dead on the tracks near the Elathur railway station. The deceased has been identified as Shahramath, a 2-year-old daughter of Kozhikode couple Shuhaib-Jaseela, Rahmath (45), Jaseela's sister. The identity of the third person remains a mystery.
