Kozhikode: The District Panchayat announced that it would join as party in a case filed with the Supreme Court, seeking action against the growing menace of stray dogs. President Sheeja Sasi revealed this during a District Panchayat meeting held to discuss measures to control the increasing number of street dog attacks.
President Sheeja Sasi also revealed plans to establish four Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres in the district. These centres will be located in Kayakkodi, Chengottukavu, Perambra, and Vadakara. However, the proposed location in Chathamangalam was deemed unsuitable and was subsequently ruled out.
The objective is to have one ABC centre for every two blocks, with the possibility of deploying mobile ABC units as well. Presently, the district is already operating one ABC centre in Balussery Vattoli Bazar, which is supervised by the District Panchayat.
During the discussion, Rajeev Perumanpura highlighted the urgent need for stringent control measures in response to the escalating street dog attacks in Olavanna Panchayat. PTM Sharafunnisa, Bose Jacob, and other participants also emphasised the seriousness of the issue.
