Kottayam: In a tragic incident, a man who had epilepsy died hours after being abandoned on road by his friend and locals at Ettumanoor here.

The incident took place at Ettumanoor Central Junction. Binu, a native of Athirampuzha, who lied on the road for 8 hours, died on Thursday morning. CCTV footage showed an auto driver and others leaving him on the road.

Binu and his friends were drunk and were travelling in an autorickshaw from Neendoor road. The auto met with an accident at the junction and Binu fell down from the vehicle. The auto overturned to Binu's body. The locals pulled him out of the auto.

After a while, Binu was abandoned on the road by his auto driver friend, who was also drunk. Those who came to rescue also refused to take him to the hospital. Binu had been lying on the road for 8 hours and died in the morning.

According to police, Binu was undergoing treatment for epilepsy. It is assumed that people ignored him thinking he fell unconscious after consuming alcohol. The police have registered a case for unnatural death.
