Kottayam: Four CPM workers have been taken into custody for physically assaulting Mathrubhumi journalist A D Ram at Thiruvarppu. Kumarakom resident V Prabhakaran (40), Thiruvarppu residents Abhilash K K (42), Nibhumon (36), and Chengalam native Nasim (28), were arrested by the Kumarakom police.   

The journalist was attacked on Sunday evening. He had earlier reported an incident where CITU workers had stopped a bus from resuming service at Thiruvarppu, after the owner received an HC clearance for the same. As the news spread, infuriated CPM workers vented their frustration on the journalist by beating him up.
