Kochi: In a late-night operation, the Kalamassery police, along with the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team, conducted a raid at the men's hostel of Government Polytechnic College, seizing approximately 2 kilograms of cannabis. The drugs were reportedly brought in for the upcoming Holi celebration.
The inspection, which started at 9 pm Thursday and ended at 4 am, was prompted by a tip-off regarding a large quantity of ganja being stored for the festival. During the operation, the authorities found the cannabis in a polythene bag hidden on a shelf in one of the hostel rooms. In addition to the drugs, liquor bottles and condoms were also found during the inspection.
Among the seizures, 1.9 kg of cannabis was recovered from the room of Akash, a student from Kollam. Nine grams of cannabis were found in the rooms of Aadityan, a native of Alappuzha, and Abhiraj, also from Kollam. The three students have been arrested and the police are continuing their investigation.
The ACP, who spoke to the media, expressed surprise at the scale of the operation, noting that such a large quantity of ganja was unexpected in a college hostel. Authorities have identified the people who allegedly supplied cannabis to the students. They are expanding their investigation to uncover further details.
