Kochi: Police have given a clean chit to the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) in the incident where MLA Uma Thomas fell from the stage during a dance performance and sustained injuries. According to the charge sheet, no lapses were found on the part of the GCDA, with the primary responsibility lying with the event organisers, Mridanga Vision.
The Palarivattom police had registered two separate cases in connection with the incident. One case was filed against the organisers, alleging a security lapse, while the other focused on the financial dealings of Mridanga Vision, the organisation responsible for arranging the venue. After the investigation, police concluded that there was no security lapse by the GCDA, clearing the authority of any liability.
However, the police are set to file a charge sheet against Mridanga Vision, citing several lapses, including issues with the construction of the stage. Authorities have stated that Mridanga Vision is responsible for the mishaps that led to MLA Uma Thomas's fall during the dance program at Kaloor Stadium.
The incident occurred during a mega Bharatanatyam program held at the Kaloor Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, which aimed to set a Guinness World Record. MLA Uma Thomas was seriously injured after falling from the 18-foot-high inaugural stage. The accident happened around 6:30 pm on December 29, 2024 just before the event was set to begin. Thomas lost her balance while walking forward to greet someone after sitting on a chair on the stage. She grabbed a ribbon tied to a temporary railing at the edge of the stage, which caused her to fall onto a concrete slab, hitting her head.
She was immediately rushed to Palarivattom Renai Medicity Hospital in an ambulance for treatment.
