
Kochi: The FIR filed by the police stated that the migrant workers attacked the police at Kizhakkambalam on Christmas night with an intention to murder them. They attacked the policemen with stones and wooden rods. The assailants set the police jeep on fire while forcefully pinning the officers inside.
Five cops were seriously injured and two of them underwent surgeries. The FIR was filed after recording statement of the injured policemen.
Meanwhile, the police recorded the arrest of 106 more people in connection with the incident at Kizhakkambalam. A total of 162 people are arrested so far. Earlier, the police had arrested 24 people on Sunday and 26 others on Monday morning.
Police have booked the accused in the Kizhakkambalam violence under 11 charges, including those for attempt to murder and destruction of public property. The accused will be brought to the place to collect evidence.
Authorities will also examine the mobile phones which were used to capture the visuals while the incident happened. This is to identify those who were directly involved in the crime. The police intend to compile a list of all those involved in the incident and record their arrest within two days.
Additional charges will be imposed after the statements of the injured, who are undergoing treatment, are recorded. Earlier, police had identified a few assailants and they were booked under charges of attempt to murder and destruction of public property.
