Thiruvananthapuram: Retired Chief Justice of Kerala High Court S. Manikumar is appointed the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairperson. 

Kerala Governor approved the recommendation put forth by the state government. Opposition leader V D Satheesan had earlier voiced his objection to the appointment of Justice Manikumar.

Satheesan wrote a note of dissent to the Governor, accusing the government of solely suggesting Manilal for the position during the meeting to select the new chairman. Following this, the Governor withheld the appointment.
