Iritty: In a freak incident, the windshield of a private bus was shattered after a troop of monkeys threw tender coconuts at the moving bus. Two passengers were injured in the accident.
A private bus named St Jude, came under attack while conducting normal service between Iritty and Nedumpoyil. A troop of monkeys threw tender coconuts as the bus drove past a coconut tree on the side of the road. The bus service was suspended for almost one and a half days and the owner Johnson had to spend Rs 17,000 to replace the windshield. The Forest Department wasn’t ready to take any responsibility and cited nil provision to pay compensation to the bus owner.
Due to the recurring attacks of monkeys, only one service is conducted through the area. The locales, travellers and pedestrians are also facing attacks from monkeys on a day-to-day basis. However, the forest department is yet to take decisive step to tackle the issue.
