Anupama issue: VD Satheesan slams govt for justifying CWC

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan on Tuesday criticised the state government for supporting the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in connection with Anupama’s child missing case.

Satheesan statement came after Minister Veena George claimed that the decision taken by CWC was as per the rule. Satheesan alleged that the Minister justified the action of the Child Welfare Committee, instead of declaring that necessary actions would be taken against the culprits. He added that the state government's stance on the issue was not in line with the ideology of the LDF and their stance is similar to the far-right thinking.

The opposition leader pointed out that government failed to act accordingly in the case as the party interfered in it. He said he was shocked by CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan's statement that the party had decided to return the child to the parent. He questioned the government on whether such decisions had to be made in party committees and asked why the government did not know what was going on in the Child Welfare Committee chaired by the Chief Minister.

“Anupama even informed CPM Politburo member Brinda Karat about the missing child and she brought it to the attention of P K Sreemathy. It is said that all the women leaders in Kerala have been informed. However, PK Sreemathy has admitted in a channel discussion that she was unable to do anything because the party was behind the issue,” he said.
