Kerala has once again claimed the top spot in the State Food Safety Index (SFSI) 2024, an esteemed annual report evaluating the food safety performance of Indian states and union territories. This achievement marks the second consecutive year that Kerala has maintained its number one ranking.
Leading states in 2024
Following Kerala, the states that ranked highly in the 2024 index include Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, and Nagaland.
Key performance areas
In her Facebook post, Kerala Health Minister Veena George highlighted that Kerala excelled in over 40 areas related to food safety. These include food security inspections, sample collection and testing, prosecution cases, and the number of NABL-accredited laboratories. The state also demonstrated testing excellence in labs, operated mobile labs, and conducted training and awareness activities.
Acknowledging team effort
Minister George expressed her gratitude to the dedicated employees in the food safety department, whose collaborative efforts were instrumental in achieving this success.
