Thrissur: The Kerala government has decided to teach children sign language so that they can communicate effectively with hearing or speech impaired individuals.

Under the project 'Kaimozhi' (sign language), the training will be initially provided to college students before being implemented in schools across the state. The children will be taught how to use the English alphabet, name states, districts, numbers, and other basic sign language terms.

The training is provided by teachers and students of the National Institute of Physical Medicine And Rehabilitation (NIPMR) in Irinjalakuda. Initially, training would be given to around 230 instructors and students from 23 colleges in Thrissur.
