Kerala Police will soon open narcotics police stations in all districts. These will operate like cybercrime units, with full jurisdiction over drug cases

Thiruvananthapuram: A narcotics police station is coming up in the State in the model of the cyber crime police station. The plan is to set up these narcotics stations in all police districts under the headship of the Narcotics and Gender Justice DySPs to curb drug trafficking.
At present, the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) and Special Investigation cannot directly take cases in drug-related issues. The accused are to be transferred under the police station limit where they belong, to file the case. Once the narcotics stations are opened, the police will have jurisdiction over the entire district. Cases can also be registered there.
About 10 officers under the Narcotics DySPs can be used for the new system. A few officers can also be transferred from police stations.
The Kerala Police Officers Association had submitted a recommendation in this regard to the Chief Minister and the Police Chief.
