Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Television Federation condemned the case registered against Asianet News TV channel reporter Akhila Nandakumar in connection with the Maharaja’s college mark list row involving SFI state president PM Arsho.
In the press conference, KTF state president Baby Mathew Somatheeram, general secretary Venkitaraman, and A C Reji, opined that the government action was against democratic values.
Citing a few incidents in the recent past, members of KTF alleged that the state government has been increasingly encroaching into the freedom of the press off late.
‘Misreporting’ shall face action, but there is a procedure in place, for pressing charges on journalists. If the government uses police force to disrupt the functions of the media, it shall be considered as an attack on the democratic fabric of our country. KTF members requested the chief minister to ensure a fear-free environment for media professionals.
