Thiruvananthapuram: Student concessions will soon be available online for private bus services, in addition to those offered by KSRTC in Kerala. The facility will be accessible through the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department’s MVD LEADS mobile app, which allows students to travel free of charge for study purposes. Officials said the digital system will help prevent disputes related to travel concessions.

Students seeking the concession must register on the app and submit an application through it. The school authorities will then verify and recommend the concession, specifying the travel route. The respective regional MVD offices will review and approve the request.

Once approved, a digital concession card featuring a QR code will be issued online, which students can either print or display on their mobile phones. Conductors can scan the QR code using their devices to confirm the approved travel route and issue tickets accordingly.

The system will also enable the government to collect detailed data on student travel in private buses.

Only government-recognised schools will be authorised to recommend concessions. In addition, schools, bus staff, and students must register on the MVD LEADS app to use the facility.
