Thiruvananthapuram: An eight-year-old boy died following a suspected snakebite at Azhoor in Kerala in the early hours of Thursday. The deceased was identified as Dikshal, son of Anu.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 2.30 am while the child was asleep at home. The boy is said to have informed his family that something had bitten his leg.

He was initially taken to Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital for treatment. However, he died while being shifted to the Medical College Hospital for further care.

Officials said a cobra was later caught from the house premises.

The body has been kept at the Medical College Hospital. It will be handed over to the family after the completion of inquest procedures.

In a similar incident reported earlier, an eight-year-old boy died of a suspected snakebite at his home in Thrissur on Sunday. The child was identified as Aljo, the son of Siljo. His elder brother, Anosh, aged 10, who showed similar symptoms, was in critical condition and undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The children were sleeping beside their mother when the incident took place.

According to family sources, the elder boy woke up at around 4 am and complained of uneasiness and stomach pain. Soon after, both children were found unconscious.

They were immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared Aljo dead. However, hospital authorities raised doubts about a possible snakebite, which led the family to inspect their house.

A snake, suspected to have bitten the children, was later seen emerging from one of the rooms and was subsequently caught.
