Kerala: Muslims across Kerala on Saturday will celebrate Eid al-Fitr with prayers and joy.

After the Ramadan month of fasting, believers will celebrate Eid al-Fitr with feasts and family visits.

All over India, Muslims flocked to mosques and Eidgahs on Saturday to perform namaz in the morning. Governor Arif Mohammed Khan offered namaz at the Eidgah on Kollam beach while actor Mammootty and son Dulquer Salmaan offered prayers at Kaloor stadium.

Reflective of communal harmony and secularism, believers of all faiths and non-believers celebrate Eid al-Fitr together.

Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated across the world on different days and it is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon which is supposed to denote the start of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar.

It marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The start of the holiday is traditionally based on sightings of the new moon, which vary according to geographic location.
