Thrissur: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reveals that there is an annual increase in sexual assault cases reported in Kerala.
In the past ten years, 19,676 rape cases were registered in the state. The total number of cases also increased from 1347 in 2014 to 2649 in 2023. The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the number of reported cases in 2020. However, the number of cases rose to 2339 in 2021, 2518 in 2022, and 2649 in 2023.
Meanwhile, the numbers indicate that women's safety programs and awareness programs are not reducing violence against women. Apart from 2020, there is an increase in the number of domestic violence and molestation cases. The number of such cases jumped from 14,524 in 2014 to 18,976 in 2023.
