Thodupuzha (Idukki): Manikutty was the pet goat of Gayathri. When the goat was stolen, Gayathri approached the police to find her pet. The police could not trace the goat and the officers were heartbroken to see Gayathri’s grief. So, they gifted Gayathri a goat kid.
A Class 9 student, Gayathri is daughter of Anchiri native Sugathan and Reena. She was caring for Manikutty, a one-and-a-half year old goat, as a family member. But somebody took the goat away 24 days ago from the roadside where she was tied. Though Gayathri searched for it thinking the goat might have wandered off somewhere, she could not find Manikutty.
It was then she came to know about ‘Chiri’ programme of the Student Police Cadet. Immediately, she contacted their toll free number and complained about her missing goat. The student police cadets handed over the complaint to Thodupuzha police station.
Shortly after this, SI Baiju P Babu and team arrived at the spot. On seeing the girl’s sad face, they searched everywhere to find the goat, but in vain. So, they decided to buy a new goat for her.
SI Baiju, CI Sudheer Manohar, police officers Aneesh, Sunil, Jessy George, Sebastian, Rohith, Nishad and Shaji pooled in money. The police team purchased a 4-month-old goat kid from Karinkunnam and handed it over to Gayathri on Wednesday. The police officers returned to work seeing the happiness of the girl and her family.
Now Gayathri is thinking of a name for the goat. “The goat kid looks like a baby of Manikutty. No matter who took her away, I hope they would not hurt her,” Gayathri said.
