Kochi: Seven urban centres from Kerala have secured positions in the global top 1,000 rankings published by Oxford Economics, featuring alongside international metropolises such as New York, London, Paris, Seattle, San Francisco and Dublin.

Thrissur emerged as the top-ranked city from Kerala, surpassing Kochi on the index. Ranked 477th globally, Thrissur leads the state's entries, followed closely by Kochi at 489th and Kozhikode at 499th, securing three places for Kerala within the global top 500.


Regional performance and governance indicators

The four remaining cities from Kerala featured in the index include Kollam at 623rd place, Thiruvananthapuram at 624th, Kottayam at 696th and Kannur at 772nd.

The Oxford Economics Index evaluates cities across five core parameters – Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment and Governance.

Thrissur’s leading rank was driven by strong scores in Economics, Environment and Governance, while Kochi performed strongly in Economics, Human Capital and Governance.

In the Quality of Life metric, Kottayam achieved the top rank among all Indian cities evaluated, with Kollam and Thrissur securing the second and third spots nationally.

 

Global and national rankings

On the global stage, New York secured the number one ranking overall, followed by London in second place and Paris in third.

At the national level, Delhi topped the Indian standings with a global rank of 268th, followed by Bengaluru at 311th, Mumbai at 330th, Chennai at 381st and Hyderabad at 421st.
