Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Olympic Association has sent a formal letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, seeking IAS rank for Indian hockey player PR Sreejesh. Sreejesh, who won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, has had an outstanding sports career, achieving milestones that no other Malayali player has matched.

Currently serving as Joint Director in the Department of General Education, Sreejesh also secured a bronze medal with the Indian hockey team at the Tokyo Olympics and repeated this success in Paris. Despite announcing his retirement after the Olympics, his achievements continue to shine.

The Kerala Olympic Association's letter to the Chief Minister requests that Sreejesh be honoured with the IAS rank in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sports.

India clinched the bronze medal in men's hockey by defeating Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday, in a perfect farewell for PR Sreejesh . Star player Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals to help India defeat Spain 2-1 and secure consecutive Olympic bronze medals, matching their third-place finish in Tokyo three years ago.

This marked the Indian goalkeeper PR Sreejesh's final international appearance. Hours before his last hurrah, Sreejesh described his international career as "nothing short of extraordinary" and expressed his gratitude to the countrymen for believing in him.

Sreejesh had announced his retirement plans ahead of his fourth appearance at the Olympics.
