Pathanamthitta: Sukumara Kurup, the wanted criminal in Kerala is back on headlines with a new revelation.Cheriyanad native and Sukumara Kurup’s neighbour John confirmed that Sukumara Kurup was seen by a beverages shop manager in Rajasthan. He confirmed the identity after seeing a photo of a man dressed as a monk.
The Crime Branch division of Alappuzha will record the statements of John soon. It is the speculation by a beverages shop manager in Pathanamthitta named Rency Ismail that led to the re-investigation into the Chacko murder case. The accused Sukumara Kurup was named a fugitive after he went missing following the murder.
In 2007, while Rency was a teacher in Rajasthan, he had seen a monk. Rency grew dubious after he realised that the monk spoke in several languages including Malayalam. He also found out that the monk was a Malayali. Although he informed police about spotting such a man in Rajasthan, no investigation followed. Rency again saw the monk on a travel blog that featured Haridwar last December. He collected the details and wrote a letter to the CM revealing his findings. The Crime Branch restarted the investigation procedure following this.
Rency had led an independent investigation by himself in Sukumara Kurup’s hometown. That is how he contacted John and showed the picture to him to confirm the identity of the man seen in it.
