Thiruvananthapuram: A physical altercations erupted between Chirayinkeezhu MLA Ramya Haridas and local Congress workers following disputes related to the Cooperative Bank elections in Thiruvananthapuram. Subsequent to the incident, Ramya Haridas sought medical treatment at the Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital. Footage of the confrontation has since emerged on social media platforms.

The violence was triggered by disagreements surrounding the attendance and participation of Palayam Pradeep, a friend of Ramya Haridas, in an official meeting comprising contractors, officials and elected representatives.

Following the circulation of a photograph from the meeting, a Congress general secretary published a post on Facebook questioning Pradeep's authority to attend a meeting reserved for elected representatives. Provoked by the social media post, Ramya Haridas and her supporters arrived at the party official's residence. Upon receiving information about her arrival, local Congress workers gathered at the location, leading to a heated argument with the MLA.

The verbal exchange between the two factions inside the house escalated rapidly into a physical scuffle. In the circulating video footage, individuals can be seen confronting each other, with visuals indicating that Remya Haridas was the first to initiate physical aggression. However, the MLA has alleged that she was assaulted by a person named Sajith Muttappalam. The Chirayinkeezhu police subsequently reached the site.

Notably, Palayam Pradeep was the Congress candidate from the Alathur constituency in the 2021 Assembly elections, where he lost by a margin of 27,000 votes.
