Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Lok Ayukta judges who have recently ruled on a case related to nepotism and misappropriation in the granting of aid from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) have been accused of attending an Ifthar event hosted by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Thiruvananthapuram.

Vijayan, who is allegedly involved in the CMDRF case, received some relief when the Kerala Lok Ayukta Justice Cyriac Joseph and Upa Lok Ayukta Justice Harun- Ul-Rashid referred the case to a larger bench on March 31. However, both Lok Ayukta judges is reported to have attended the Ifthar event organized by Vijayan on April 4 in Thiruvananthapuram, based on an invitation.

RS Sasikumar, petitioner in the case, said in response to the allegations that he had lost faith in the Judiciary. He believes that the Lok Ayukta judges attending the event is an insult to the Judiciary. Although they were invited as a token of gratitude for pronouncing a verdict that brought temporary relief to the Chief Minister, the judges should have declined the invitation, he added.

Meanwhile, RS Sasikumar has filed a review petition requesting the Lok Ayukta to reconsider its verdict to refer the case to a larger bench. At the same time, the trial proceedings will be heard by the larger bench from April 12 onwards.
