Kerala logs 4,995 new COVID cases, death toll climbs to 41,124
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 4,995 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed the health department in a press release.
Along with 44 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 225 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 41,124 in the state.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram-790, Ernakulam-770, Kozhikode-578, Kottayam-532, Thrissur-511, Kollam-372, Kannur-284, Pathanamthitta-243, Malappuram-205, Alappuzha, 195, Wayanad-158, Idukki-148, Palakkad- 130 and Kasaragod-97. Test positivity rate was recorded at 8.01 percent.
A total of 62,343 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 21 wards of 19 local self-government bodies.
1,59,899 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,55,157 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4,742 people are in hospitals. 275 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.
Among the 44,637 active Covid cases reported, only 7.5 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
33 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 4,706 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 219 patients remains unidentified. 37 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 4,463 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram-871, Kollam-325, Pathanamthitta-8, Alappuzha-151, Kottayam-277, Idukki-208, Ernakulam-848, Thrissur-502, Palakkad-169, Malappuram-187, Kozhikode-538, Wayanad-123, Kannur-194 and Kasaragod-62.
50,70,497 people were recovered from the disease so far.
