Unusual electoral contests unfold in Thrissur with relatives standing against each other from Congress, BJP, CPM, and Muslim League in Mala and Panjal.

Thrissur, Kerala: An unusual electoral showdown is unfolding in Mala Panchayat’s Kottamury Ward 11, where two Congress leaders from the same household have filed nomination papers to contest against each other.
On Friday, Leo George, vice president of the Congress Mala Mandalam committee, entered the fray against his younger brother Geo George, the Mala Mandalam committee president and the official Congress candidate. Both leaders reside in different wards.
Geo George is a member of the Mala Panchayat and leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party. Meanwhile, there are indications that discussions are underway in the party to withdraw one of them.
Meanwhile, in Thrissur's Panjal Thekkumuri Ward 12, voters face a rare family contest. Three members of the Vadakkepattu family are contesting for different political fronts.
Girija Chandran represents the CPM, Jayashree Sethumadhavan is the BJP candidate, and V Renuka Ramadas is fielded by the Muslim League. Jayashree and her younger sister Renuka are daughters of the late Kunhikrishnan Nair and Malathi Amma, while Girija is their maternal aunt. All three candidates are neighbours. The Congress has also fielded a candidate here.
