Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala witnessed record liquor sales on Christmas Eve and Christmas this year.
According to data released by the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (BEVCO), a total of ₹152.06 crore worth of liquor was sold on December 24 and 25 of this year, compared to ₹122.14 crore during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the liquor sales during the two days saw a significant increase of 24.50% (₹29.92 crore) compared to last year. Experts attributed this surge to both an increase in liquor prices and a spike in the spending patterns of customers.
On December 25, BEVCO outlets sold liquor worth ₹54.64 crore, marking a 6.84% rise compared to ₹51.14 crore in sales on the same day last year.
Christmas Eve alone accounted for ₹97.42 crore in total sales, comprising ₹71.40 crore from BEVCO outlets and ₹26.02 crore from warehouses. This marks a 37.21% hike when compared to last year’s sales of ₹71 crore.
