Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Lalithakala Akademi declared the 51st state visual arts awards for 2022 on Wednesday. The awards were announced for the best works in painting, sculpture, new media, photography and cartoon. 

Mathrubhumi chief reporter and cartoonist K Unnikrishnan won the award for his cartoon ‘Amrith Kal’. Ameen Khaleel clinched the award for his painting ‘Balancing on unreal Surface’ while KS Prakashan bagged the prize for drawing ‘To recover something previously lost’. The other winners are KR Shan (sculpture), PB Sreeja (painting), KS Sreenath (new media), and Anu John David (photography). 

The award consists of Rs 50,000, citation and a sculpture designed by the renowned sculptor Valsan Koorma Kolleri.

S Ammu (graphic print), Helna Joseph (new media), Mibin (painting), Muhammad Yasir (painting), VJ Albert (sculpture), D Manoj (photography), KB Madhusoodanan (cartoon) and KM Siva (cartoon) won Honourable Mention Awards of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi. 

Apart from these categories, V Shankaramenon Endowment Gold Medal, Vijayaraghavan Endowment Gold Medal, Rajan M Krishnan Award, special jury awards, and special mention awards for art students were also announced.

Lalithakala Akademi chairman Murali Cheeroth and secretary N Balamurali Krishnan informed that the awards will be given away on May 29 at Durbar Hall Ground and an exhibition will be held at Durbar Hall art gallery.
