Kochi: At Kerala High Court, the GST Council asserted that petroleum products cannot be included in the ambit of GST. The council submitted an affidavit in the court stating that the decision was unanimously taken in the last meeting of the GST Council as petroleum products are major revenue sources of the state.
The Council had earlier informed the court of its views on bringing petroleum products to GST. The unsatisfied HC bench directed the council to prepare a detailed report after discussing the matter in the next GST Council meet.
The council said such a step would incur a huge loss to states. It cannot be decided currently as the states are under distress due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Council told the HC.
