Kochi: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter Veena Vijayan were served notice by the Kerala High Court on a petition filed by Mathew Kuzhalnadan MLA seeking an inquiry into the CMRL-Exalogic financial transactions.
Muvattupuzha MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan moved the High Court against the Vigilance Court verdict in the CMRL pay-off case. The Vigilance Court had rejected the petition filed by the Congress MLA seeking a vigilance probe against the Chief Minister and his daughter Veena Vijayan.
Kuzhalnadan then approached the High Court requesting a review of this verdict, resulting in the High Court issuing notice to all the opposing parties, including Chief Minister, daughter Veena Vijayan and the CMRL.
The Vigilance Court while rejecting his petition had stated that there are only allegations in the petition and that the complainant has failed to produce documents to prove the allegations. The judgment had said there was no prima facie evidence against the Chief Minister and his daughter, and that the petition did not fall within the purview of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The Vigilance Court had also criticised Kuzhalnadan's petition by observing that it strengthened the argument that the allegation was politically motivated, prompting him to move the High Court with a request to give a direction to re-examine this observation of the Vigilance Court.
The monthly pay-off controversy is being investigated by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office, the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate.
