In line with the recommendations, the MEDISEP scheme may see a rise in the maximum medical assistance from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh

Thiruvananthapuram: : The Kerala government is set to revise the MEDISEP (Medical Insurance for State Employees and Pensioners) scheme, with a proposed hike in the monthly premium alongside an increase in benefits for state employees and pensioners.
An expert committee under the Department of Finance has recommended raising the monthly premium from Rs 500 to Rs 750.
The file has been forwarded to the Chief Minister’s Office for a final decision.
At present, the maximum medical assistance cover is Rs 3 lakh. The proposal suggests increasing it by Rs 5 lakh. As the three-year MEDISEP period ends this month, the Department of Finance has extended the contract by an additional three months.
For the next phase of implementation, a tender must be floated to select a company to take over the contract and carry out further monitoring.
