Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Drugs Control Department launched 'Operation Soundarya' in Kerala to curb the sale of counterfeit beauty products.
In the latest inspections, the officials seized cosmetic products worth over ₹7 lakh and cases were filed against 33 establishments involved in the sale of such fake products.
Health Minister Veena George announced that the third phase of the inspection would begin in the coming days. The action was prompted after chemical substances harmful to the body were found in beauty products during earlier inspections.
Mercury levels exceeding permissible limits were detected in lipstick and face cream samples. Consumers are urged to exercise caution when purchasing beauty products. It is essential to verify that such items are manufactured with proper licensing and that the manufacturer's address is clearly mentioned on the label. Complaints can be reported at the toll-free number 18004253182.
