Kerala govt raises Onam gift for rural and urban employment guarantee scheme workers to Rs 1,200; over 5.25 lakh beneficiaries to benefit.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has raised the Onam gift for workers under the rural and urban employment guarantee schemes by ₹200. Finance Minister KN Balagopal announced that this year’s gift will be worth ₹1,200, up from ₹1,000 last year, benefiting 5,25,991 workers.
An allocation of ₹51.96 crore has been made for distributing Onam gifts to rural employment guarantee scheme workers. A total of 5,19,623 workers who completed 100 days of work in the last financial year will be eligible.
Under the state-run Ayyankali Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme, 6,368 workers who completed at least 100 working days in the past year will also receive the allowance. For this, ₹63.68 lakh has been earmarked.
