Thiruvananthapuram: The operations for the emergency number 112, which connects callers to police services, have been upgraded. With this, the response time is expected to be reduced by around three minutes compared with the current system. The number 112 can be dialled for all emergency services, including police, fire and ambulance. The revised service was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the police headquarters.

Complaints can now also be registered via WhatsApp, web requests and a chatbot. A modern system will identify the caller’s location in real time. The 112 service can be accessed even from numbers without outgoing facilities or temporarily out-of-service lines, on both mobile and landline phones. The service is also available through the SOS button on the police’s official mobile app, POL-APP.
