Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has declared bird flu as a state calamity. Alert has been issued in the state including the border areas.

Director of Animal Husbandry Dr. K M Dileep responded that bird flu has been included in the list of state calamities.

Strict restrictions will be imposed in Karthikappally and Kuttanad taluks in Alappuzha and Neendoor in Kottayam where the disease was confirmed.

Trade of bird meat and eggs will be regulated strictly. However, the restrictions are not applicable for other districts.

Tamil Nadu banned bringing chicken and egg from Kerala as bird flu was confirmed in the state. Tamil Nadu government has issued alerts in the border areas.
