Kannur: CPM leader and former Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya is likely to evade police until the verdict on her anticipatory bail plea in the ADM suicide case is delivered.

A case was registered against the former District Panchayat President for abetment of suicide in connection with ADM Naveen Babu's death. Following this, Divya has been in hiding.

Through her counsel, she presented detailed arguments in court for anticipatory bail last week. Divya reportedly received legal advice that there was no need to appear before the police. Additionally, the police investigating the case will not consider an arrest until a decision is made on the bail application. Thalassery Principal Sessions Court is set to announce the verdict on the anticipatory bail plea on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a CPM state secretariat meeting held in Thrissur has decided to wait until the bail verdict is announced before taking further action against Divya. However, it is learnt that there was a heated exchange at the Kannur district development committee meeting regarding the delay in Divya's arrest. Representatives of Congress MPs raised protests, insisting on passing a resolution to arrest all offenders. Eventually, the resolution was passed.

Interestingly, the protest occurred during a meeting chaired by Collector Arun K. Vijayan, who had attended the farewell meeting after which the ADM was found hanging.

Statements recorded
The investigative team continues to record statements related to ADM K. Naveen Babu's death. Statements have been recorded from six individuals, including the collector's gunman, revenue department officials, and employees from the collectorate. The team enquired about the factors leading to the ADM's suicide and Divya's allegations.

Appeal to remove Divya from the Curriculum Committee
An appeal has been submitted to the Chief Secretary, requesting the removal of Divya from the core committee of the curriculum committee of the Department of General Education. The petition was submitted by public activist Adv. Kulathoor Jaisingh. Although Divya has been removed from the position of District Panchayat President, the appeal points out that this does not qualify her to remain on the curriculum core committee. The Chief Secretary informed that instructions have been given to the Director of General Education for urgent action, Jaisingh reported.
