CM V.D. Satheesan has denied allegations that police assaulted an elderly woman at the Kerala Secretariat, calling the reports “false”.
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan dismissed media reports alleging that police assaulted an elderly woman who had come to meet him at the Secretariat with a complaint, calling the claims "false."
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Satheesan said the woman had met him and discussed her grievance, but the matter she raised is currently pending before a court, limiting the government's ability to intervene.

The Chief Minister said that senior citizens and persons with disabilities are usually received on the ground floor of the Secretariat, as part of arrangements to ensure seating and avoid inconvenience to them.
According to Satheesan, after meeting him, the woman created a commotion downstairs. He said police personnel then assisted her by helping her into an autorickshaw, got her a train ticket and put her on the train.
"That is the reality. If she makes a false complaint, what can be done? When the media inquired into the matter, they themselves came to know the facts," Satheesan said.
The alleged incident took place a week ago when 79-year-old Sharada, a resident of Edava in Varkala, came to meet the Chief Minister regarding a financial dispute. She alleged that police officers assaulted her and forcibly removed her from the Kerala Secretariat, during which she sustained injuries. She later sought treatment at Varkala Taluk Hospital.
