Kollam: Food safety officers have busted an attempt to smuggle adulterated milk into the state. In a surprise inspection at the Aryankavu checkpost, they took a lorry into custody that was carrying 15,300 litre adulterated milk.

The milk transported from Thenkasi in Tamil Nadu was mixed with hydrogen peroxide, officers said. It was headed to Pandalam in Pathanamthitta.

The lorry was shifted to Aryankavu police station.

The food safety department has sent a sample of the milk to the lab in Thiruvananthapuram to test the percentage of hydrogen peroxide in the milk.
